The short version
Textoria uses browser local storage for a handful of small preferences, such as your theme and your spelling ignore list. Those values stay on your device and never reach us. The site is free and supported by advertising, so Google AdSense and its partners may also set cookies to serve and measure ads; those are described below, along with how to refuse them. Everything can be deleted from your browser settings in a few clicks.
What cookies and local storage actually are
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to keep. On a later visit, the browser hands the file back, and the site can recognize you, or at least recognize that this browser has been here before. That mechanism powers everything from staying logged in to being followed around the web by an ad for the shoes you looked at once.
Local storage is a close cousin: a small key-value store your browser keeps for each website, with no expiry date by default. Modern browsers treat both under the same privacy umbrella, and both are cleared by the same "clear site data" action.
Neither technology is spying by itself. The questions that matter are what a site puts in them and what it does with the contents later. This page answers both questions completely, because the answers are short.
What Textoria stores
The site uses browser local storage for essential preferences only:
- Your theme choice, so the site opens in light or dark mode the way you set it.
- Ignore lists, such as the words you have told the spelling checker to stop flagging. Your surname and your client's product name are not misspellings, and you should not have to re-teach the tool that on every visit.
- Recently used tools, so the ones you use daily stay a click away.
That is the complete list. Each entry is a tiny value, a theme name, a list of words, a few tool slugs, stored on your own device and readable only by this site. Textoria does not use cookies for any of this; it uses local storage. Nothing in it identifies you, nothing is transmitted to us, and no advertising profile can be built on a list of words you told a spellchecker to ignore.
One consequence of this design is worth stating. Because preferences live only in your browser, they do not follow you to another device or another browser profile. That is not a bug we can fix with an account; there are no accounts. It is the trade you get for a site that stores nothing about you.
Advertising cookies
Textoria displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies and similar identifiers when you visit pages that carry ads. Their purposes are:
| Cookie category | Who sets it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising / personalized ads | Google and its partners | Uses your prior visits to this site or other sites to choose ads. Includes the DoubleClick cookie. |
| Ad measurement | Google and its partners | Counts impressions and clicks, and detects invalid traffic. |
| Consent state | Records whether you accepted or rejected personalized advertising. | |
| Fraud prevention | Detects automated or abusive traffic. |
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can read Google's own explanation at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your choices:
- Opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info.
- If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, advertising cookies are set only after you consent through Google's consent message. You can reject personalized advertising and still use every tool; you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through that message.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser at any time. The tools will keep working; only ad personalization is affected.
Advertising scripts run alongside the tools. They have no access to the contents of a tool's text field, and the text you paste is never uploaded or shared.
What Textoria does not use
The negative list is still longer than the positive one:
- No social media widgets, no embedded video players, and no third-party trackers beyond the advertising services described above.
- No fingerprinting. We do not try to identify your browser or device by combining its characteristics.
- No tracking cookies of our own. Textoria has no login, no shopping cart, and no personalization engine.
- No selling of your drafts or contact details. There is no draft data to sell.
Analytics
If Textoria runs analytics, they are aggregate and privacy-respecting: pages counted, rough patterns of which tools get used, enough signal for a small team to decide what to improve next. No individual profiling, no cross-site tracking, no combining with other data sets, and never anything you type into a tool, which cannot reach analytics in the first place because your text never leaves your browser. If we enable an analytics provider, the privacy policy discloses the category of provider at or before the time we switch it on, and this page will reflect it.
How to control or remove stored data
Everything Textoria stores is under your control through your browser. Clearing the site's data removes your theme, your ignore lists, and your recently used tools; the site then starts fresh, slightly less personalized, and fully functional. It also clears any advertising cookies set for this site. The exact path varies by browser:
- Chrome and Edge: site settings for textoria.online, then "Delete data," or clear browsing data and choose cookies and other site data for this site.
- Firefox: the padlock icon in the address bar, then "Clear cookies and site data," or Settings, Privacy & Security, Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Settings, Privacy, "Manage Website Data," and remove the entry for this site.
If you prefer not to keep any site's data, every major browser also offers modes that discard local storage and cookies when the window closes, and settings that block third-party cookies outright. Those choices will not break Textoria. The site works with storage disabled; it simply forgets your preferences on each visit.
A note on cookie banners
Textoria does not use a cookie banner for its own preferences, because those are essential local storage with nothing to consent to. Advertising is different: where the law requires consent, Google's consent message asks before advertising cookies are set, and you can accept or reject personalized advertising there. If you do not see a message, your region does not require one, or your browser is already blocking the relevant cookies.
Changes to this policy
If the site's use of storage or advertising changes, this page is updated first and the "Last updated" line at the top changes with it. Significant changes get a note in plain language near the top of the page for a reasonable period afterward.
