Escape structure, not meaning

Encode the five characters that change HTML structure: ampersand, angle brackets, double quote, and apostrophe. Decoding reverses named, decimal, and hexadecimal entities. Unknown entities are left as written so nothing disappears silently. This is a safety step for displaying text inside markup, not a sanitizer for untrusted HTML.

How to use this workbench

  1. Paste your text or load the example.
  2. Choose any options that apply to your task.
  3. Read the result, then copy it or download a text file. Your input stays available until you clear it or leave the page.

Frequently asked questions

Does my text leave my browser?

No. Processing happens in a local browser worker. The tool makes no request containing your draft.

Can I upload a document?

Use Import .txt to read a UTF-8 plain-text file locally. Word documents and PDFs are not supported. Copy their text into the input instead. Each field accepts up to 200,000 characters.

Will the result replace my original?

No transformation automatically overwrites your input. Check the output before copying it. Grammar and spelling suggestions change the input only when you choose to apply them.

Make the next edit count

Read the result in context. If the text needs another pass, try the word counter, text cleaner, or readability checker.
